Welcome to Central Union School District

Central Union is just a few days away from the start of the 2020/2021 school year and we are looking forward to continue with our educational partnership with you and your child(ren). On July 17, 2020, Governor Newsom outlined his plan for school reopening, titled the “Pandemic Plan for Learning and Safe Schools”. In this plan, the Governor outlined the key areas for how schools should open for in-person instruction. These components consist of:
  1. Safe in-person school based on local health data
  2. Strong mask requirements for anyone in the school
  3. Physical distancing requirements & other adaptations
  4. Regular testing and dedicated contact tracing for outbreaks at schools
  5. Rigorous distance learning

In regard to rigorous distance learning, under newly enacted state law, school districts are required to provide:

  • Devices and connectivity so that every child can participate in distance learning
  • Daily live interaction for every child with teachers and other students
  • Class assignments that are challenging and equivalent to in-person instruction
  • Targeted supports and interventions for English learners and special education students.

With those guidelines as issued by Governor Newsom, Kings County, presently does not meet the minimum requirement for in-person instruction. Thus, Central Union will open schools in a distance learning format at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.
Central Union’s Distance Learning Model will be different than the approach delivered in the Spring. You can review the outline of the Distance learning plan below. Our student’s participation in this model is not optional. Daily attendance and participation will be taken. Our students will be provided rigorous instruction with high level of expectations mirroring traditional face-to-face instruction as much as possible.
Our staff has been preparing the digital material for distribution to our students, which will begin on August 12 and run through the first three days of school. Instruction will begin on August 17, 2020.
School site Principals will provide specific parent information this week related to the school distribution plan.
